Xanthogramma pedissequum (Harris, 1776)
A large and distinctive Hoverfly, but there is one other species that could cause identification confusion. The general southerly UK range of Xanthogramma pedissequum is somewhat mirrored in Nottinghamshire, especially at sites in the Trent Valley. Although we have a record from Market Warsop, our only other encounters with this attractive species, are from a Mapperley garden and a brownfield site at Langar.
