Velia caprai (Tamanini, 1947)
A colourful species, Velia caprai is commonly known as the Water Cricket. It is common across the whole of the UK and has a preference for small streams. This one was found sheltering between stones along the edge of the River Meden at the Hills and Holes SSSI, at Market Warsop in mid-August 2009.
