Roesel's Bush Cricket Metrioptera roeselii
Crickets and Grasshoppers belong to the order Orthoptera and the current UK list contains around 30 species, including several known migrants/accidentals. Nottinghamshire currently has 15 species on it's list. Roesel's Bush Cricket arrived in the Nottinghamshire by the A453 near Clifton during 2006 and the following year, was then found at Collingham, Stoke Bardolph and Langford Lowfields in August 2007. The high-pitched sound made by the male is difficult to hear, but we found them even more difficult to actually see. Persistence finally paid off when we managed to photographed this male at Langford Lowfields on 26/08/07.
