Phaonia rufiventris (Scopoli, 1763)
One of many similar species of Phaonia which can be encountered on fine days during the Summer and Autumn. Phaonia rufiventris has been well recorded in Nottinghamshire, but most of the county's records available online, pretty much date back around a hundred years. This male (lower photographs) and female, photographed at Clipstone Old Quarter in early October 2016, were the first record of P. rufiventris from the Sherwood Forest NNR since 1914.
