Othius subuliformis (Stephens, 1833)
A decent sized Rove Beetle, the one photographed measuring just over 5mm in length. There are over 1000 species of Staphylinidae in the UK, most are scavengers and can be found in a variety of sites. They generally inhabit leaf litter and and other decaying matter and are good fliers. This Othius subuliformis was found under a discarded piece of wood at Sherwood Forest CP in February 2010. There are relatively few Sherwood records.
