Merzomyia westermannii
This is another well marked and colourful Tephritid Fly, one of three swept from areas of Bird's Foot Trefoil and other flowering plants at Warsop Main Pit Top in July 2011. Merzomyia westermannii is described as extremely local across much of the southern UK, with the NBN Gateway, showing just a handful of scattered records. Although possibly genuinely scarce, this fly is very likely to be overlooked as interest in UK Diptera is very low amongst entomologists.
