Eristalis horticola (De Geer, 1776)
Eristalis horticola is another fairly large species and often showing considerable variations in markings to some other Eristalis hoverflies. This one was photographed at Budby South Forest in late August 2021 and was an especially fresh individual. Fairly common across most of the county, although this is perhaps not evident from the distribution map, Eristalis horticola is found in a wide range of habitats and regularly attracted to flowers.
