Violet Black-legged Robber Fly Dioctria atricapilla (Meigen, 1804)
Widespread across southern counties of the UK, in a line running from Tyneside and Merseyside. In Nottinghamshire, Dioctria atricapilla is largely confined to the Clumber Park area and has only recently been found in the Sherwood Forest area, when recorded at Sherwood Heath SSSI in June 2021. Away from these sites, there is a record from Netherfield Lagoons, so the true range of this fly in VC56 Nottinghamshire is difficult to ascertain.
