Dysdera crocata (C.L. Koch, 1838)      Formerly known as Dysdera crocota
Known commonly as the Woodlouse Spider, Dysdera crocata is not a spider we have come across a great deal before, despite it having a preference for synanthropic habitats. There are two reddish-coloured Dysdera spiders in the UK, with Dysdera erythrina being smaller than D. crocata, and this spider can bite if handled roughly.

It should be commonly spread around much of Nottinghamshire, as there are a number of records from Worksop Priory, Market Warsop, Church Warsop, Southwell, Nottingham City Hospital and Langar, with the spider often being found under stones or discarded rubbish/wood etc.
