Arctosa perita (Latreille, 1799)
A common spider in the UK which often favours heathland areas, but is also found on former pit colliery sites. Colouration in this species can be variable, but is usually very similar to the spider's habitat, hence the rather grey tones on this male Arctosa perita at Warsop Main Pit Top in April 2010. This common species has been recorded just twice from the Sherwood Forest NNR, first in 1977 and then more recently in March 2011, but it regularly turns up on wasteground or open sandy sites in the Mansfield area..
