Currently known from just a
single Nottinghamshire site, when a number of specimens were recorded in
a sample of old hay and feed etc, taken from inside an old horse shelter
at Cockglode Wood near Ollerton in December 2025. This, and the
following species, are virtually identical and a specimen under the
microscope is really needed to separate Allochernes powelli
from Allochernes wideri, despite the fact that the two usually
differ in their habitat requirements.
May ultimately prove more
widespread through specifically targetted surveys of old barns, stables
etc.
A tritonymph (immature) is showed in the lower two photographs. |
