Agelena labrynthica
More commonly known as the Labrynth Spider, Agelena labrynthica is widespread across the UK, favouring dry soils with low vegetation. The webs are obvious and often found in distinct colonies, such as the colony situated on a steep bank at the entrance to Ollerton Pit Woods. The one photographed is a juvenile, which shows the red carapace. This is lost as maturity is gained later in the year. Photographed in early May 2011.
