Tychus niger (Paykull, 1800)
This is a minute Rove Beetle (Staphylinidae) with a size of around 1.5mm, but when these photographs were taken, did seem a little generous and it appeared smaller. Found by seiving Pine needle litter underneath some old Pines at Lambley Cemetery in March 2018, the only other modern record we knew of for Nottinghamshire at the time, was from Treswell Wood in 1986 (Marsh, B.). but it has recently turned up in a manure heap at Lowdham in early January 2026. There is a historical record for Sherwood Forest.
