Tropidia scita (Harriss, [1780])
A Hoverfly of wet marshes, Tropidia scita is largely restricted to coastal areas of the south-east UK. In Nottinghamshire, it is known from Attenborough NR, Netherflied Lagoons, Lound GP, Hundred Acre Wood near Worksop and from King's Mill Reservoir in May 2020 in the upper photographs. The individual in the lower two photographs, was found and photographed by Pauline Bradford at Lound GP. Identification is made easier by the swollen hind femur, which is arched to form a triangular process near the apex.
