Only recorded new to Nottinghamshire in early 2026, when eight
specimens turned up in a manure sample taken from a small field at The
White Post. Sphragisticus nebulosus is typically found along
sandy field margins, being especially known from the Brecklands area of
East Anglia. But in recent years, there is some evidence to suggest that
it has started to expand its range, with a record of from Yorkshire in
2025 (Bantock, T.) and then this
Nottinghamshire record (Brownley, N. and
Brownley, S.) from February 2026. There are similar species (Peritrechus)
so care has to be taken with the identification, but it's likely to be a
more widespread than is presently known. |
