Scydmaenus rufus (Müller, P.W.J. & Kunze, 1822)
A tiny species measuring just 1.4mm - 1.5mm in length. Typically, this is a beetle of heat providing manure and compost heaps etc, with a south-easterly UK distribution. There seem to be just two other recent Nottinghamshire records, from Nottingham Trent University's Brackenhurst Campus on October 8th 2016 (Heeney, W.) from Stoke Bardolph on April 11th 2020 (Dutton, A.) and the one photographed below, one of many found present in a long-standing manure heap at Church Warsop on April 6th and 10th 2020.
