Widely distributed across southern and central parts of Europe, Polistes dominula occurs largely as an accidental import, or rare vagrant
to the UK. It is known to
have bred in the Thames Corridor area of south-east England and is an
occasional breeder here. There seem to be no previous Nottinghamhire
records and so the one found and photographed by Darren Matthews at
Colwick in July 2019, represents not only a county first, but possibly the most northerly UK
record. Our grateful thanks go to Darren, for providing us with his
photographs illustrating the species. |
