Generally commonest across the southern-half of the UK with very few
records north of a a line drawn across from The Humber and the Mersey.
This is another weevil which is dependant on a range of Pines as host trees,
but despite Nottinghamshire having large areas of commercial Pine
forestry, there are only a handful of county records.
The specimen photographed below, was beaten from Pines at Clumber Park
in April 2024 by Nick and Samantha Brownley. Clumber is one of just
three Nottinghamshire sites where Pissodes castaneus has been
recorded from in recent years, the others including Budby South Forest
and Sherwood Forest CP (both Dutton, A.). |
