Very rare in Nottinghamshire, this weevil is known from a handful of
records from the Sherwood Forest and Clumber Park areas, usually being
found in open, grassy heathland. In the UK, it is primarily coastal in
range, but there are odd populations inland. In Nottinghamshire, there
are post-1980 records from Sherwood Forest CP, Spalford Warren and
Clumber Park, where the specimen illustrated below was found by Nick and
Samantha Brownley in May 2025.
The seperation between this species and Attactogenus plumbeus
is extremely difficult, and can only really be safely concluded via
examination of a specimen under the microscope, relying on certain
characteristics of the front tibiae. This specimen was identified
formally by Adrian Dutton, the Nottinghamshire recorder for coleoptera. |
