Philonthus cognatus (Stephens, 1832)
Widely distributed over much of the UK, this 8-11mm long Rove Beetle has occured several times at Sherwood Forest. The individual photographed, was however, found at Treswell Wood in April 2014. Philonthus cognatus can be recognised by the distinctive orange underside of the first antennal segment.
