Pherbellia cinerella (Fallén, 1820)
Pherbellia cinerella is a Snail-killing Fly (Sciomyzidae) with a distinct south-westerly range in Nottinghamshire. The most northerly records come from Annesley Bentinck Pit Top, east across to Netherfield Lagoons, where Peter Smith photographed the specimen shown below in May 2020. Common across much of the south UK, especially in coastal areas, our grateful thanks go to Peter for very kindly allowing the use of his photographs to illustrate the species.
