Monotoma longicollis (Gyllenhal, 1827)
This tiny beetle has been recorded historically from Nottinghamshire, but the one illustrated below, was found in a manure sample taken from Lowdham by Nick and Samantha Brownley in January 2026 and appears to be the first modern record of Monotoma longicollis for Nottinghamshire. Generally, beetles of the Monotomidae family, are regular in samples of well-rotted manure and there can often be several species to a sample. But they are very small, with this species being just 1.4mm - 1.7mm in length and very difficult to see.
