Litargus balteatus (Le Conte, 1856)
For many years, this tiny beetle was only known from the UK on the basis of records from Sherwood Forest in 1907. Originally an American species, it wasn’t seen anywhere in the UK again until 1982 when it turned up in Leicestershire, followed by records from Norfolk in 2003 and 2007, when it was also found in Cambridgeshire. The one photographed below, was found on the underside of a cut log, near the former Sherwood Forest visitor centre in October 2018, coming well over a century since previous Sherwood records.
