Leiosoma deflexum (Panzer, 1795)
A small but distinctive Weevil, which is fairly common in Nottinghamshire and associated with Buttercup (Ranunculus sp) in a range of habitats and wherever the host plant grows. It is common across most of the UK. Leiosoma deflexum is typically all black, but there is a colour form (Leiosoma deflexum f.collare) of this species, in which the head and pronotum are red and very distinctive. The specimen in the top two photographs, was actually found climbing the trunk of an Ash Tree at Wellow Park in May 2013 and the lower photographs show the form collare, which was found in leaf litter by Nick and Samantha Brownley, at Duke's Wood in March 2026.
