Larinus carlinae (Olivier, 1807)
A Weevil found on various Thistles Cirsium sp, where it is usually found close to the developing flower buds. There are currently just two Nottinghamshire records of this attractive species, which is superficially similar to (and probably found with) the more widespread Rhinocyllus conicus. Nottinghamshire's first record was recorded at Broadholme, on the Nottinghamshire border with Lincolnshire in early April 2024 (Gray, M.), but there have since been other records, including Attenborough NR (Hibbert, T.) and Eakring (Pendleton, T.A.) in May 2026 and from Stoke Bardolph in June 2026 (Brownley, N. and Brownley, S.) , so it must be fairly well distributed in the county. Grateful thanks to Tom Hibbert, for providing the lower photograph.
