Hylotrupes bajulus (Linnaeus, 1758)
Sometimes known as the Old House Borer, Hylotrupes bajulus is a longhorn beetle which is predominantly found in parts of south-eastern England, but there are odd records from further north, including this one found new to Nottinghamshire by Adrian Dutton, on the wall of a new build house on the site of the former Gedling Colliery in October 2022. It is thought that the beetle had obviously arrived here via timber used during the building process. Thanks go to Adrian for allowing the use of his photograph below.
