Hilara maura (Fabricius, 1776)
With well over 50 different species of Hilara, this is an extremely difficult Genus to identify. Overall, these small flies can be common found on vegetation near water, but will occur almost anywhere. There are few modern records of Hilara maura, which we have recorded ourselves or have been sent in to us and which currently show a westerly distribution in Nottinghamshire.
Nottinghamshire (VC56) distribution of Hilara maura
The records for the Nottinghamshire distribution map are currently provided by the following contributors - Netherfield Wildlife Group. Trevor and Dilys Pendleton. Andy Godfrey. Stuart Warrington. The National Trust (Clumber Park invertebrate records). Peter Kirby (Bentinck Tip & Void Invertebrate survey 2007).

You can contribute your own records to help us gain an accurate status of this species in Nottinghamshire. Send an Excel spreadsheet of your records via the 'contact us' link at the top of the homepage.
