Hilara maura (Fabricius, 1776)
With well over 50 different species of Hilara, this is an extremely difficult Genus to identify. Overall, these small flies can be common found on vegetation near water, but will occur almost anywhere. There are few modern records of Hilara maura, which we have recorded ourselves or have been sent in to us and which currently show a westerly distribution in Nottinghamshire.
