Herina lugubris (Meigen, 1826)
One of several extremely similar and well-marked flies, Herina lugubris is probably a good deal more widespread in Nottinghamshire, than records on our distribution map would suggest. This is a fly of grassy, well vegetated sites, including the former Annesley-Bentinck, Bilsthorpe and Ollerton Collieries.
