Gymnocheta viridis (Fallén, 1810)
At first glance, this fly may be easily passed over as one of the many so called 'Greenbottles', but the long, erect hairs on the abdomen help to distinguish it as belonging to the Tachinidae family. Gymnocheta viridis is becoming increasingly recorded at many Nottinghamshire sites and is now a common Spring species. The lower left photograph, was very kindly provided by Martin Warne of the Lound Moth Group.
