Gymnocheta viridis (Fallén, 1810)
At first glance, this fly may be easily passed over as one of the many so called 'Greenbottles', but the long, erect hairs on the abdomen help to distinguish it as belonging to the Tachinidae family. Gymnocheta viridis is becoming increasingly recorded at many Nottinghamshire sites and is now a common Spring species. This example in the top two photographs, was recorded by Martin Warne of the Lound Moth Group, in April 2014.
