Eristalis nemorum (Linnaeus, 1758)
Another fairly large species which appears to be common in the Eakring area and probably is throughout much of Nottinghamshire. Eristalis nemorum is not unlike E. tenax in markings, but is smaller and often has white along the trailing edges of the abdominal sections (tergites) The one shown was found at Eakring Meadows on a dull and windy morning on 03/08/06.
