A bee of south-eastern counties of the UK, but also found in coastal
parts of the south-west which includes Wales. This record from
Bestwood on 01/07/23 (Parkin, S.), was
not only a first for Nottinghamshire, but at the time of writing (May
2024) the most northerly UK record of Dasypoda hirtipes.
Evidence would suggest that this bee is also moving north-west through
the country and it will certainly be an overlooked species to a degree,
due to the disappointing lack of interest in Nottinghamshire's
Hymenopterous fauna. Grateful thanks go to Sandra Parkin, for providing
her photographs to illustrate the species here. |
