Cymus claviculus (Fallén, 1807)
A scarce and decidedly uncommon Lygaeid bug in Nottinghamshire, but one which is probably under-recorded to a large degree. Nottinghamshire records of Cymus claviculus are few, and although there is a record listed on the NBN Atlas from sometime between 1960 and 1969, (at SK7000) there are no details of recorder or determiner and may well be in South Yorkshire anyway.

The first properly documented and accepted record, seems to be from near Rainworth in 2011, then from the site of the former Welbeck Colliery at Meden Vale in 2018 (both Flanagan, J.). There was another recorded from Bentinck Void in 2019 (Wilson, R.I.) before the one illustrated below, turned up in a grass and leaf litter sample, taken from the base of several Birch and Oaks on Sherwood Heath in January 2026.
