Culiseta annulata (Schrank, 1776)
Culcididae (Mosquitoes) have largely been neglected by the county's naturalists and there are currently very few modern records of any of the species known from Nottinghamshire. Culiseta annulata is a well marked Mosquito, with distinctive bands of white on the legs. Common throughout the UK, it occurs in a wide variety of sites sites including ponds, ditches and even in garden water butts. Adult females feed both indoors and outdoors on a variety of hosts including humans and birds.
