Cheilosia variabilis (Panzer, 1798)
A distinctive Cheilosia with the dark wings helping with identification. C. variabilis is common across most of the UK, usually found along woodland rides and edges. There appear to be few records from Nottinghamshire, purely based on those sent in to us for inclusion within the county distribution maps. The lower two photographs were kindly supplied by Pauline Bradford.
