Chaetocnema
concina is a small leaf beetle (Chrysomelidae)
with at least two common names, giving an indication as
to its habitat preference. Also known as the Beet Flea
Beetle, or the Mangel Flea Beetle, it might not be
surprising to learn that it occurs around fields of Sugar
Beet. In the case of the one illustrated here, it was
actually an extremely confiding individual, found on the
trunk of a Beech in woodland near Redbrick House near
Market Warsop in late November 2014. The wood was next to
an un-harvested field of Sugar Beet. |
