Cantharis rufa (Linnaeus, 1758)
A common species throughout the UK, but with relatively few Nottinghamshire records. Records show that Cantharis rufa is found in the southern-half of the county, but it is very easily overlooked. This may be down to the difficulties in identification many Cantharis species pose, as there can be extremes in colouration within species. Often more commonly known as Soldier Beetles, there are around 40 UK species and they are frequent visitors to flowers.
