Brachyopa scutellaris (Robineau-Desvoidy, 1834)
This is the commonest of the UK's four Brachyopa Hoverflies. Brachyopa scutellaris has been recorded a number of times from woodland in the north of Nottinghamshire in recent years and is often associated with Elm regrowth. The accompanying photographs were taken by Pauline Bradford at Dyscarr Wood in the north of the county during May 2016. Our thanks go to Pauline, who has once again kindly provided her photographs to illustrate this species.
