Bembidion varium (Olivier, 1795) 
Not a commonly encountered ground beetle in Nottinghamshire and indeed, four of the five records showed on the map below, are from within the confines of the Trent Valley. As with other Bembidions, there are often a number of similarly marked species to rule out, so identification is not always easy. Grateful thanks to Nick and Samantha Brownley, for providing the beetle shown below.
