With very little regular recording of Nottinghamshire's Hymenopterous
fauna, it is often very difficult to determine the status of most bees
and wasps in the county, usually because there are few records
ultimately finding their way onto the NBN Atlas, or iRecord. And with
such little recording being done, there is ample scope for someone to
come along and find species new to the county list.
Sandra Parkin has done that from the confines of her Bestwood garden on
a couple of occasions, and has also produced records of species rarely
recorded in Nottinghamshire. Andrena wilkella is one such
species, which has been recorded from Sherwood Forest in 1985
(Archer, M.) and both Spalford Warren
and Eaton Wood in 2015 (both Wetton, B.)
in recent years. Grateful thanks to Sandra for providing her photographs
to illustrate the species below. |
