Small Sallow Mining Bee Andrena praecox (Scopoli, 1763)
Uncommon, with a thinly scattered distribution across southern parts of the UK, Andrena praecox is probably under recorded in Nottinghamshire. Females can be found visiting Sallow blossom in early Spring, but the males seem to spend most of their time flying round Sallows in their search for a female and only rarely seem to visit flowers for nectar. The male is illustrated, found in a wildlife garden at New Ollerton in early April 2019.
