Agathidium nigripenne (Fabricius, 1792)
Found under the bark of a fallen Beech branch in an old copse near Cuckney in early May 2015, Agathidium nigripenne is distinctive enough to identify with some experience working with beetles. Likely to be under-recorded in Nottinghamshire, this beetle has been recorded from Sherwood Forest, but not since 1978. The beetles are generally found on or near various fungi found growing on mature trees.
