Hairy Dragonfly Brachytron pratense (Muller, 1764)
Status .....This is a rare Dragonfly in Nottinghamshire and despite being recorded occasionally from sites in the south of the county, it is still largely confined to the Idle Valley NR, Gringley Carr and Misson Carr. It prefers well vegetated ditches at those sites where it occurs and is on the wing earlier than most other large Dragonflies. Our thanks go to Phil Cadman for allowing us use his photograph of one found at the Idle Valley NR (below left) and to Darren Matthews for providing us with his photograph (below right) taken at Colwick.
